Pada era tahun 1960-1980, kota Ponorogo memiliki 750 pembatik. Pembatik tersebut berlindung di bawah dua koperasi yang menjadi induk ekonomi para pembatik, yaitu dua koperasi yang khusus mengurusi pengusaha batik. Sebagai bukti pernah jayanya ekonomi Ponorogo dengan batik, bisa dilihat banyaknya bangunan tua yang ada di Ponorogo.
